PM Offers Nepal use of Pyra Port

During a meeting with her Nepalese colleague Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina offered Nepal the use of its recently built Pyra port.

On the eve of the UN Food Systems Summit, the two visiting ministers met at the FAO Headquarters' newly opened Bangladesh-Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Room. To attend the conference, both leaders are in Rome.

During the meeting, Bangladesh's Foreign Minister, AK Abdul Momen, revealed that PM Hasina offered Nepal the use of theu Pyra port.

“Bangladesh has already opened the Chalna and Chittagong ports for Nepal. Nepal can use the newly constructed Pyra port as well,” Momen  quoted her as telling Dahal.

Bangladesh is transforming its Sayedpur airport into a regional center, according to PM Hasina, to improve connectivity in the area.

According to Momen, the Nepalese prime minister praised the progress made in Bangladesh under the capable leadership of PM Hasina.

“You are a leader of our region,” Momen quoted him as saying.

He claimed that Nepal has enormous potential for producing hydroelectric power.

In this regard, Sheikh Hasina stated that when the first trilateral power trade between Bangladesh and Nepal through India for 40MW of power begins, Bangladesh will take initiatives to import renewable energy, notably hydroelectricity.

Dahal said that many Nepalese students are attending universities in Bangladesh.
