In the fifth phase, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina unveiled 50 more freshly built model mosques and Islamic cultural centers around the nation on Sunday.

As of now, 250 mosques have been erected nationwide as part of the government's initiative to build 564 district and upazila-level model mosques for a total of Tk 9,435 crore.

The premier held a virtual inauguration ceremony at each of the 50 mosques from her official house, Ganabhaban.

She previously revealed 50 mosques in four phases: the first on June 10, 2021; the second on January 16, 2019; the third on March 16, and the fourth on April 17, 2019.

The construction of the remaining mosques and Islamic cultural centres is scheduled to be completed by June, 2024.

The air conditioning system and separate areas for ablution and namaj are features of model mosques and Islamic cultural centers.

Along with the mosques, there will also be accommodations for local and foreign visitors, a conference room for Islamic cultural activities and Islamic dawat, an Islamic book sale center, an autism corner, a ritual system for before burial, a car parking facility, a hifzakhana, pre-primary education and Quran learning arrangements, and an Imam training center.

The prime minister has come up with the concept of building 564 model mosques all around the nation, inspired with the spirit of Islam and following in the footprints of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Father of the Nation.

The project's aim is to spread the core of Islam against extremism and militancy while also promoting Islamic culture and values.

In 64 districts and city corporation regions, 69 four-story mosques with elevators and a floor area of 2,360.09 square meters each are being built under category A.

475 mosques in category B are being constructed with a floor area of 1680.14 square meters each, while 16 mosques in category C are being constructed in coastal regions with a floor area of 2,052.12 square meters each.
