Militants from the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (Arsa) are accused of shooting and killing a Rohingya man early on Sunday in a dispute over taking control of the Ukhiya camp in Cox's Bazar.
The deceased is Md Salim, 45, a resident of Rohingya camp number 7's A-1 block and the son of Md Nazir Hosain of Kutupalong, Ukhiya upazila.
A group of Arsa militants shot Md Salim and left him on the road at B-5 block of Rohingya shelter camp No 2-West Kutupalong of Ukhiya upazila in Cox's Bazar in the middle of the night, according to locals quoted by Ukhiya police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sheikh Mohammad Ali.
Later, he was saved by the villagers, who then transported him to Kutupalong MSF Hospital. He was later pronounced deceased by the hospital's on-call physician.
"The doctors said that Salim died due to excessive bleeding due to a bullet injury in his leg," he said.
The OC said that a police effort was being carried out to find and apprehend individuals responsible.
The mortuary at the 250-bed District Sadar Hospital in Cox's Bazar has received the deceased's body for post-mortem, he said.
