In relation to the violent incidents that took place surrounding the BNP's sit-in campaign at significant access points to the city, at least 11 charges have been brought against 549 leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

According to KN Niyoti Roy, additional deputy police commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Media and Public Relations division, the cases were filed for altercations, vandalism, and arson assaults that happened on Saturday (29 July).

The complaints were made by the victims and the sub-inspectors of the police stations in Kodomtoli, Jatrabari, Uttara West, Uttara East, Bongshal, Airport, and Sutrapur.

According to the evidence, police in Matuail shot 351 rounds of shisha and rubber bullets in addition to 60 rounds of tear gas.

Police opened fire on the Dholaipar neighborhood where Goyeshwar was assaulted with 138 rounds of short kartooz guli, eight rounds of tear gas, and three rounds of button shells.

Senior BNP officials were removed from the cases, and another 70 to 80 people without names were added as defendants.

The BNP launched sit-ins at key Dhaka entrance ports on July 28 as part of its all-out campaign to topple the Awami League administration and hold the forthcoming presidential election under a nonpartisan administration.

Along with damage and arson, the five-hour sit-in programs culminated in violent altercations with the police.

Amanullah Aman and Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, both members of the Standing Committee, as well as more than 200 other party members, according to the BNP, were hurt during the programs as a result of attacks.

They further assert that the police detained 124 leaders and activists, among them the organizing secretary Advocate Abdus Salam Azad.

In response to the reported assaults on BNP officials and activists during its sit-in programs in the capital on Saturday, the BNP declared that it will stage protests around the nation on Monday.

Prior to that, Obaidul Quader, the general secretary of AL, made a statement announcing AL's planned statewide protests in reaction to "anarchy and arson violence carried out by BNP and Jamaat."
