Nuclear Fuel for Rooppur Power Plant to Arrive in September: Rosatom

Fuel for the Rooppur nuclear power station is expected to arrive in the country in September of next year, according to Director General Alexey Likhachev of the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation "Rosatom," who is now present in the nation.

The Rosatom DG made this declaration while paying a visit to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official residence, Ganabhaban.

The PM's press secretary, Ihsanul Karim, briefed the media following the meeting.

“The work of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP) has progressed overcoming hundreds of obstacles and nuclear fuel for this plant will arrive in Bangladesh in September,” Alexey Likhachev was quoted as saying.

The prime minister was informed by the director general of Rosatom on the overall RNPP development during the meeting.

They also discussed the RNPP's inaugural festivities.

The RNPP's work had continued despite the Covid-19 outbreak and the world crisis, and the prime minister praised everyone for their efforts.

She also expressed her appreciation for Russia's technological and financial support.

Sheikh Hasina hoped that Russian collaboration will continue in the future as she recalled Russia's support and aid during the great Liberation conflict and in the reconstruction of Bangladesh after the conflict.

Science and Technology Minister Architect Yeafesh Osman, PM’s Ambassador-at-large Mohammad Ziauddin, her Principal Secretary M. Tofazzel Hossain Miah, Senior Secretary of Science and Technology Ministry Ziaul Hasan, PM’s Special Assistant Dr. Shaheed Hossain and Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh Aleksandr Mantytsky were present.
