August officially began today, the month in which the nation lost Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, its greatest leader, in 1975.

The August 15 massacre is the most tragic incident in the nation's history since it not only resulted in the death of the nation's founding father but also the majority of his family.

The confessed killers on that dark night did not even spare 10-year-old Sheikh Russel.

Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana, daughters of Bangabandhu, survived because they were in Germany at the time.

The country honors August as a month of sorrow in remembrance of the brutal killings with sad hearts.

The ruling Awami League (AL) and its partner organizations, among other political and sociocultural organizations, have planned a month-long schedule to honor the month of mourning.
