Of the 34 students who had been held in Tanguar Haor in the Sunamganj district, 32 were given bail on Wednesday. Among them were 24 current Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) students.

The juvenile court is currently hearing the bail motion for the other two because they are minors.

Bail requests from the 32 students were granted by magistrate Farhan Sadiq.

According to the defendants' counsel Taibur Rahman Babul, they are among the best students in the country. They only went to look around. The court approved their plea for parole since they are all children of reputable households.

He noted that because two more pupils are minors, their bail cases are still ongoing in juvenile court.

The 34 students were detained on Sunday (July 30) afternoon in Tanguar Haor on suspicion of "secret conspiracy and hampering the public safety" against the authorities.

Police, who were the plaintiff, reported them to Tahirpur Police Station for violating the Anti-Terrorism Act. They were shown before the court on Monday afternoon, showing them to have been arrested in the case. Later, the court sentenced 32 of them to prison and two of them, who were minors, to a juvenile delinquency facility.

All those detained, according to the police, were members and leaders of Islami Chhatra Shibir.
