Facebook to work with EC to prevent election propaganda

Facebook's parent organisation Meta will work with Election Commission (EC) in ahead of general elections to prevent rumours and propaganda, said Ashok Kumar Debnath, additional secretary of EC.

EC said this after a meeting with the Meta delegation led by Ruzan Sarwar, Head of Public Policy for Bangladesh, at the election building on Thursday (August 3).

The social media giant will work after announcement of the election schedule, according to the delegation who came from Singapore.

"We didn't contact Facebook, they asked for a meeting schedule. In view of that, the meeting was held today. There will be further discussions," the official added.

On this issue whether there is any financial involvement of Facebook asked by the media, the additional secretary said the matter will be determined through further discussions. 

Besides, Aidan Hoy, Head of APAC Global Response at Meta and Eugene Poe, a Regulatory Specialist attended the discussion as delegation members.
