PM Confers Sheikh Kamal Sports Award

In appreciation of their remarkable contributions to sports, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today presented 10 athletes and two organizations with the Sheikh Kamal National Sports Council Award-2023 in eight categories.

On the occasion of the 74th birthday of Sheikh Kamal, the oldest son of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Father of the Nation, she presented the prizes to the victors.

The event was held in the city's Osmani Memorial Auditorium and was organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Sports Council.

The initial captain of the Bangladeshi national hockey team, Abdus Sadek, was a candidate for the lifetime achievement award.

Sabina Khatun, the captain of the women's football team, Taskin Ahmed, a cricketer, and Ziaur Islam, a weightlifter who won the South Asian gold medal, were the winners in the sportsperson category.

Amirul Islam of hockey and Muhtasin Ahmed Hriday of table tennis won the developing athlete award, and Ustad Fazlu of grassroots hockey and Mala Rani Sarker, the head of Kalsindur Govt School and College, won the prize in the sports organizer category.

Tarek M. Nurullah of Khandakar won the sports journalism prize.

Bangladesh Archery Federation received the sports association/ federation/ organisation award while Bangladesh Association of Banks got the sports sponsor award.

In addition, the ministry included a category for sports commentators to the NSC award for the first time. Atahar Ali Khan, a former member of the national cricket team and a cricket pundit, won the accolade for sports commentary.

Each recipient of the prize will also get a diploma, crest, and Tk 1 lakh.

The prize was established in 2021 by the youth and sports ministry.
