2 Children Killed after Sand Pile Collapsed in Pabna

In Pabna's Ishwardi, two children were murdered on Monday when a sand mound toppled on them in the village of Jhaudia.

Jihad Hossain, 10, and Himel Rana, nine, were named as the deceased.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing a sizable amount of sand in the Blockpara region that had been forcibly removed from the Padma river. Around 7 o'clock, Himel and Jihad were having fun beside the sand pile. The two were severely hurt when the sand mound suddenly toppled on them.

Locals saved them and sent them to the Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex, where the on-call medical staff immediately proclaimed them dead.

Officer-in-Charge (OC-Investigation) Hasan Basir of the Ishwardi police station said that the remains were held there.

The police spokesperson said, "Police are investigating the incident; further information will be provided."
