Over 200,000 people are now marooned in Cox's Bazar because of the worsening flood crisis brought on by the constant rain and upstream high slopes.

In addition, in the district's Chakaria, Pekua, and Ramu Sadar upazilas, 90 villages over 25 unions have been submerged by floodwater.

Since Monday night, the water levels of the Matamuhuri and Bakkhali rivers have been flowing above the danger threshold in Cox's Bazar, which has had severe rains for the last week.

The majority of the upazilas' villages, including Kakra, Surajpur-Manikpur, Baritali, Harbang, BM Char, Chiringa, Lakshya Char, and others, have now seen water entry as a result.

An official from Chakaria upazila’s Bangladesh Water Development Board Jamal Morshed said: "The water of Matamuhuri River is flowing above the danger level due to heavy rains and mountain slopes. The embankments in Kainarkum, BM Char, and Mehernama areas have been breached due to the heavy water flow of the Matamuhuri River.”

In addition, the official stated that many of the embankments constructed by the Bangladesh Water Development Board are susceptible to breaking.

JP Dewan, the Chakaria Upazila Nirbahi Officer, stated: "The flood happened because the water level suddenly rose. Erosion and shifting hill slopes are dangers. People who are residing close to the hills have been told to relocate to safer areas.

In Cox's Bazar on Monday, two Rohingyas and two other victims of a landslide brought on by heavy rain were murdered and injured.

While gathering wood that was brought by the flow of water in the Matamuhuri river, a young man was carried away by the river's Lakharchar point.
