At least 16 people had perished in Chattogram from floods caused by incessant rain and landslides over the course of the preceding week, and three more were still missing.

Homes, crops, and businesses have sustained a combined loss of Tk 135.15 crore, according to the District Relief and Rehabilitation Office.

The Chandanaish, Satkania, and Lohagara upazilas in the south district have seen particularly severe flooding.

These locations were essentially underwater for three days starting on Monday night. The electricity was shut off for three days. Days of rain caused flooding on the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar roadway, which had to be closed.

On Thursday morning, the route was once more available for traffic, but several neighborhoods were still without electricity, according to officials.

According to District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Md Saifullah Mazumder, the damages as of Thursday were Tk 135.15 crore.

As the water began to recede on Wednesday, the corpses of several persons who went missing came to light.

According to the official, there were 16 fatalities overall in five upazilas of Chattogram up till Thursday night.

Three remain unaccounted for, Saifullah stated.  Seven of the deceased passed away in Satkania, four in Lohagara, two in Chandanaish, one in each of Banshkhali, Rauzan, and Chattogram City, and one in Banshkhali.

One individual is missing in Chandanaish upazila, according to Officer-in-Charge of Chandanaish Police Station Anwar Hossain.

Satkania, Lohagara, and Chandanaish upazilas have been without electricity for three days among the flood-affected localities. There were several issues that the locals had to deal with, including a lack of clean water.

But as of Wednesday night, the water level in these locations has begun to drop and electricity has begun to come back in certain spots.

The senior manager of Chattogram Palli Bidyut Samity-1, Dilip Chandra Chowdhury, stated: "Up to this point, Satkania is the only upazila in the south where the electrical connection has not been restored. In Satkania, work is also ongoing, and we anticipate resuming power there shortly.

6,35,000 persons have been marooned in the district, while 6,753 have been taken to shelter houses, according to district administration sources.

The Patenga Meteorological Office reports that Chottogram got 664 mm of rain during the course of the previous seven days. Of them, 42.8 mm on August 4, 64.2 mm on August 5, 231.5 mm on August 6, and 216.4 mm on August 7 saw rainfall totals.
