Two Killed in Train Accident in Brahmanbaria

At Akhaura in Brahmanbaria, two persons were murdered when a train struck them as they crossed a railroad bridge while dodging police. 

According to the police, the incident happened on Thursday night at about 8:30 p.m. near the Kharampur Railway Bridge on the Akhaura-Sylhet Bypass Railway Line.

Shukur Mia, 60, was named as the dead. He is the child of Gazi Mia of the Madhabi upazila of Narsingdi's Doari village. The other deceased's identity was not immediately revealed. 

Some worshippers who came to the Kharampur shrine for an urs religious gathering, according to officer-in-charge of the Akhaura Railway Police Station Jasim Uddin Khandaker, were defying the police obstacle and crossing the railway bridge. 

At that time, when the Dhaka-bound Parabat train was coming, the policemen on duty on both sides blew the whistle and signaled the arrival of the train. 

Although most of the people got down from the railway bridge, the two men tried to cross the bridge and was hit by the train. Both of them skidded off the bridge into the river after being hit by the train, OC Jasim said.

On receiving the information, a unit of Akhaura Fire Service rushed to the spot recovered the bodies of the two men from the river after about an hour of efforts.
