Many people who sought refuge in shelters because of the disastrous floods and landslides caused by the heavy rains in Bandarban have already returned to their homes, according to District Commissioner Shah Mujahid Uddin.

During a news conference conducted on Friday afternoon, he went into further depth about the district's general situation as well as the extent of the damage caused by the most recent extreme rains and floods.

The calamity, which has also severely harmed the infrastructure, has dislocated families.

In order to cope with the effects of the accident, some 340 individuals are still staying in various shelters in the neighborhood. The impact has been dire, with 15,800 families stranded by flooding, and a staggering 15,600 houses being severely damaged, he said.

According to the District Commissioner, who cited the Agriculture Department, the agriculture industry has been severely impacted, with 8,253 hectares of crops succumbing to the flood.

He also stated that 10 people had died as a result of the flood and landslides.

Due to the persistent rain, road links between Thanchi and Ruma upazilas are still broken.

According to him, the Department of Public Health Engineering has established two mobile water purifying units as part of its rehabilitation efforts.

Through this initiative, 2 lakh liters of water have already been delivered. According to him, the Bangladesh Army has also contributed to the relief operations by delivering an extra 53,800 liters of water for consumption.

Additionally, 850 families have received essential dry food provisions, while 962 individuals have been given vital medical care and medications.

The government allocated 168 metric tons of food grains and Tk 6 lakh for those impacted by the disaster.

Bandarban Hill District Council has earmarked Tk 24 lakh for each of the 7 upazilas, providing essential funds to aid the recovery process.

After four days of power outage in Bandarban town, electricity supply has been fully restored since Friday.

However, water supply remains disrupted, as efforts to clear debris and sediment from the water treatment plant are still ongoing.

Internet and mobile connectivity in Bandarban have been reinstated.
