Human Trafficking: 34 Rohingyas Rescued in Cox’s Bazar

Police said that 34 Rohingya people, primarily youngsters, were saved after they were rounded up near the Cox's Bazar Central Bus Terminal area for trafficking.

Additionally, two alleged human traffickers were apprehended on the spot.

According to Officer-in-Charge of Cox's Bazar Sadar Model Police Station Rafiqul Islam, 16 of the persons who were rescued are youngsters, ranging in age from one to five. There are also 10 women and eight males.

They all live in camps in the district's Teknaf and Ukhia upazilas.

"Last night, when police arrived at the scene following information that traffickers were gathering Rohingyas in the Central Bus Terminal in the Larpara area," three to four people tried to flee.

He stated, "At that time, it was possible to detain two people," and added that 34 Rohingyas were saved.

"A case has been filed with Cox's Bazar Sadar Model Police Station against the two suspected human traffickers, and on orders from higher authorities, the rescued Rohingyas will be handed over to their respective camp administrations," the OC continued.
