Ohidul Alam Held for Embezzling 44 Pilgrims’ Money

Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have detained Ohidul Alam Bhuiyan, who stole money from 44 hajj pilgrims.

Owner of a hajj agency Ohidul, 50, was apprehended in the city's Sher-E-Bangla Nagar neighborhood on Sunday night during a combined RAB-2 and 9 drive.

Ohidul Alam, the proprietor of Sajid Hajj Travels & Tours, his son Sajidul Islam, and his brother-in-law Md. Shafiqul Islam stole money from 44 hajj pilgrims under the pretense of sending them to Saudi Arabia for the hajj in 2023. However, the group stole taka 3 lakh before going into hiding, according to RAB-2 Senior ASP Senior Assistant Director Shihab Karim.

Later, the victims filed more than five cases at various police stations around the nation.

After receiving confidential information, the elite force unit launched a drive in the Sher-E-Bangla Nagar neighborhood on Sunday night and captured Ohidul.

"Ohidul admitted that he had stolen the money. He is facing legal action, the RAB representative added.
