Rampal Power Plant Goes Back into Production

After being shut down for 16 days owing to a coal shortage, Bagerhat's Rampal Coal-Fired Thermal Power Plant resumed operation on Monday.

Anwar-ul Azim, deputy general manager (DGM) of Bangladesh-India Friendship Power Company (Pvt. Ltd.) BIFPCL Limited, said that the power plant began operation at 3 p.m. on Monday.

400 MW of newly produced power have been added to the national grid since this afternoon. The MV Bashundhara Impress, flying the flag of Bangladesh, arrived at Mongla port on August 13 carrying 31,700 tonnes of coal from Indonesia. Coal has been being unloaded, transported, and stored since the morning, the official stated.

He said that later this month, two additional ships transporting coal from Indonesia to Mongla port are slated to arrive.

Afterwards it was commissioned on December 17 of last year, the Rampal Thermal Power Plant has been shut down six times in the seven and a half months afterwards.

The power plant was shut down four times in quick succession: on January 14, April 15, June 30, July 16, and July 30.
