After being shut down for 16 days owing to a lack of coal, Bagerhat's Rampal coal-based thermal power plant is again producing energy once more.

After the coal supply arrived, production began on Monday afternoon, and the power produced is being sent to the national grid.

The power plant had already been shut down on July 31 because of a coal shortage.

Anwar Ul Azim, the deputy general manager (DGM), of Bangladesh-India Friendship Power Company (Pvt.) Limited (BIFPCL), said that production resumed on Monday at 3 p.m.

''Since afternoon, a total of 400 MW of power has been produced,'' he continued. The national grid has already been connected to the power generated.

Next its December 17th commissioning, the Rampal thermal power plant was shut down seven times in the next seven months. The power plant was shut down for the first time after production began on January 14; a second time on April 15; a third time on April 23; then on June 30, July 16, and finally on July 31.

The Rampal power plant, which was jointly sponsored by Bangladesh and India, has a 1320 MW total power output capacity, according to the power station. There are two units in the power plant. A total of 660 MW of power may be produced by each unit.
