The Jamuna River's water level has been rising alarmingly once more.
Despite the fact that the water level is rising as a result of the heavy rains and upstream water, the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) claims that there is no threat of severe flooding.
According to BWDB sub-divisional engineer Ranjit Kumar Sarkar, the Jamuna river's water level on Saturday was 12.44 meters at the Sirajganj hardpoint.
After rising eight centimeters on the previous day, the water is currently flowing below the danger line of 46 cm.
On the other hand, the water level was recorded at 14.80 meters at Meghai Point in Kazipur.
The water level increased 14cm in the last 24 hours and is now flowing below 66cm of the danger level.
Executive Engineer M Mahbubur Rahman of Sirajganj’s BWDB said: “Due to heavy rainfall upstream, the water in Jamuna is rising again."
Over the following three days, the water will rise and may reach a dangerous level.
However, the official continued, there is no threat of significant floods.
In the past, the Jamuna river's water level increased three times between late July and August 17 without going beyond the danger mark.
Due to recurring flooding of the agricultural land in the char regions, farming has been interrupted.
