Hillary Clinton Urges Support for Prof Yunus

In a social media message, former US secretary of state Hillary Clinton solicited support for Prof. Muhammad Yunus, the Nobel Prize winner.

Yesterday, Clinton included an open letter to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina requesting for the immediate suspension of the "current judicial proceedings against Prof Yunus" in a post on X (previously Twitter) and Facebook.

"Join the movement to demand an end to his persecution," wrote Clinton, wife of former US president Bill Clinton.

Clinton was one of 79 world leaders and 104 Nobel laureates who signed the letter dated August 27.

In a post on X, US senator Dick Durbin echoed Clinton's appeal.

In a statement released yesterday, he said, "I join these Nobel laureates in calling for an end to his harassment by the Bangladeshi government. I am the main sponsor of a resolution granting Muhammad Yunus the Congressional Gold Medal for aiding the world's impoverished.
