Deputy Attorney General Emran Ahmed Bhuiyan said that he agreed with the statement of 176 world leaders on the suspension of the trial of Nobel laureate economist Dr. Muhammad Yunus. He said that Dr. Yunus is being defamed and judicially harassed.

Deputy Attorney General Imran Ahmed Bhuiyan told this to the media persons at the Supreme Court premises on Monday (September 4) at noon.

He said, 'A statement from the Attorney General's Office is expected to be issued protesting the statement of the world leaders. Notice has been given to everyone in the Attorney General's Office to sign the statement. I have decided not to sign this statement. Israel's attorney general has taken a stand against judicial reform. So not signing the statement is also my own thought.'

Earlier, 176 world leaders, including more than 100 Nobel laureates, wrote an open letter to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to suspend the trial of the case against Dr. Muhammad Yunus and hold fair elections. Later, this number increased to 183 people as more people signed it.

Among the signatories of the letter are former US President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, East Timor President Jose Ramos-Horta, former Irish President Mary Robinson, and former United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
