The Cabinet has given final approval to the draft of the 'Ansar Battalion Act 2023', which provides for the death penalty in cases of rebellion or conspiracy in the Ansar Battalion. Today, Monday, September 4, Cabinet Secretary Md. Mahbub Hossain gave the information in a press conference.
The Cabinet Secretary said incitement to rebellion, being present, and not informing if there is information of rebellion will be considered a serious crime punishable by death.
Apart from this, the new law has provided separate punishment for theft of government or battalion property, absence from parade, and absence from office without notice.
He further said that for small crimes, the DG will be tried, and for major crimes, the prevailing law will apply.
On March 28 last year, the cabinet approved the draft of the 'Ansar Battalion Act-2022' in principle.
