The process of firing Deputy Attorney General (DAG) Imran Ahmed Bhuiyan from his job for not signing the statement against Nobel Peace Prize-winning Economist Dr. Muhammad Yunus has started.
The information was confirmed by the Solicitor Wing of the
Ministry of Law on Tuesday, September 5.
On Monday, September 4, in the Supreme Court premises,
Deputy Attorney General Imran Ahmed Bhuiyan said, ‘More than 160 Nobel
laureates on behalf of Professor Dr. Yunus, including the former President of
the United States and the former Secretary of State, have given statements that
he is being subjected to judicial harassment.’ Against that, the Attorney
General's Office is expected to issue a statement protesting.
Notice has been given to all those working in the Attorney
General's Office to sign the statement. I have decided, I will not sign that
statement, he said.
He also said, 'I agree with the statements made by 160
eminent persons on behalf of Dr. Muhammad Yunus. I think Dr. Yunus is an
honorable person. His honor is defamed and it is judicial harassment.'
Former US President Barack Obama wrote a letter in support
of Dr. Muhammad Yunus on August 27.
Sources from the Ministry of Law's Solicitor Wing and Attorney
General's Office said that the Solicitor Wing has been instructed to start the
process of dismissing Deputy Attorney General Imran Ahmad Bhuiyan from the
Ministry of Law on Monday on charges of misconduct and an anti-state and
anti-government stance. Accordingly, the Solicitor's office has started the
process of dismissal.
