426 People Lost Lives in 793 Road Accidents in August

Last August, 426 people were killed and 793 injured in 441 road accidents. Out of these 171 motorcycle accidents, there were 168 deaths and 149 injuries.

Motorcycle accidents account for 38.77 percent of total accidents, 39.43 percent of fatalities, and 18.78 percent of injuries.

Dhaka Division had the highest number of road accidents in August, 126 people were killed in 125 road accidents.

This report was given in a press release signed by Mozammel Haque Chowdhury, Secretary General of the Accident Monitoring Cell of the Bangladesh Passenger Welfare Association, on Wednesday (September 6).

635 vehicles were identified in road accidents in August. It shows that 28.34 percent of road accidents were motorcycles, 22.20 percent were truck-pickup-covered vans and lorries, 15.11 percent were buses, 17 percent were battery-powered rickshaws and easy bikes, 5.98 percent were CNG-powered auto-rickshaws, 4.56 percent were Nachiman-Karimon-Mahindra-Tractor and human haulers, and 6.77 percent were car-Jeep-Microbus road accidents.

Of the total accidents, 61.45 percent occurred due to vehicle rollovers, 21.99 percent were head-on collisions, 12.92 percent were due to loss of control, 2.72 percent were miscellaneous, and 0.90 percent were train-vehicle collisions.

Analysis of the types of accidents shows that 38.54 percent of total accidents this month occurred on national highways, 21.08 percent on regional highways, and 31.06 percent on feeder roads. Also, 7.25 percent of the total accidents occurred in the Dhaka metropolitan area, 1.13 percent in the Chittagong metropolitan area, and 0.90 percent occurred at railway crossings.
