Law, justice and parliamentary affairs minister Anisul Huq on Friday said that deputy attorney general Imran Ahmed Bhuiyan was sacked for breaching discipline.

He said this while replying to a question from journalists at Akhaura Railway Junction in Brahmanbaria Friday morning.

The DAG on September 4 told reporters that he would not sign a statement of government law officers countering global leaders’ statement urging the Bangladesh government to halt trial against Nobel laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus and that the Nobel laureate was facing judicial harassment.

On the following day, the law minister had said that the government was looking into the matter as Imran Ahmed Bhuiyan breached discipline by speaking to the media without permission of the attorney general.

The law minister, responding to another question at Akhaura on Friday, said that there was no scope in the law to allow BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s family request to send her abroad for treatment.

Earlier at about 10:15 am, the minister reached Akhaura railway station by Intercity Metropolitan Express train.

Awami League leaders welcomed him at the station by offering flowers.

Leaders of Awami League, Juba League, Chhatra League and other organisations were present.

Later, he left the station for his constituency, Kasba Upazila, by road.
