Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is currently in Delhi on the occasion of the G-20 summit, the world's largest economic alliance. There she met and held a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his official residence.

Today, Friday, September 8, Sheikh Hasina reached the Prime Minister's official residence in New Delhi around 6 p.m. local time. At that time, the Prime Minister of India himself came and welcomed him. Then the top leaders of the two countries held a meeting for about an hour.

After the meeting, Narendra Modi said in a message on social media X (formerly Twitter) that he held a productive bilateral meeting with Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on various issues including connectivity, and commercial ties. etc.

"Had productive deliberations with PM Sheikh Hasina... Our talks covered areas like connectivity, commercial linkage and more," the Indian PM said in a post from his official X handle following the meeting.

"The progress in India-Bangladesh relations over the past nine years has been very gladdening," Modi also said.

Meanwhile, in a press briefing on Friday night, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said the issue of the upcoming national elections was not discussed during the bilateral meeting between Modi and Hasina.

However, he said, " I do not know if the issue was discussed between the premiers privately."

In the meantime, the foreign minister and the bilateral meeting discussed several issues, including the Teesta water-sharing treaty.

"Indian PM Modi gave assurance that he will prioritize resolving the Teesta water sharing and other issues by discussing them at the government level," said Momen.

Host India has invited 9 countries, including Bangladesh, to participate as guest countries in this year's G-20 conference. Based on existing relations with India, Bangladesh is the only country in South Asia to be invited to the conference.
