ADC Harun Withdrawn for Allegedly Torturing BSL Leaders

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Khandkar Golam Farooq said that Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADC) of Ramna Division Harun Or Rashid has been withdrawn for allegedly torturing two BSL leaders after abducting them to Shahbag police station.

He confirmed the matter to the media on Sunday (September 10).

Earlier on Saturday (September 9) night, two leaders of Central BSL were arrested and beaten up by ADC Harun Or Rashid at Shahbag police station.

The two BSL leaders are Chhatra League Central Science Affairs Secretary and DHA Shahidullah Hall General Secretary Sharif Ahmed Munim. The other person is Central Organizing Secretary, Fazlul Haque Hall President Anwar Hossain Naeem. They were rescued and admitted to the hospital.

Because of the incident, the Chhatra League leaders gathered in front of the Shahbag police station at night. Later the university proctor and police officials went to the police station and resolved the incident at midnight.

Chhatra League said that ADC Harun was chatting with another female police officer at Bardem Hospital area on Saturday night. At that time, the husband of the female officer went there with two leaders of the Central Chhatra League. The husband of the female officer is also a government official. ADC Harun had an argument with him. Later, ADC Harun took the two Central Chhatra League leaders to Shahbag police station and tortured them inhumanly. After that, when the situation became dire, the two were sent to the hospital.

However, ADC Harun denied the whole incident. He told the media, "I know nothing regarding this. '

ADC Shahen Shah Mahmud of New Market zone said, "There is no such thing known. But while walking, one of our officers bumped with another officer. Even though there was a misunderstanding about it, the matter has been resolved.
