ADC Harun Suspended

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said that Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADC) Ramna Division of Police Harun Or Rashid, who was transferred from Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) to Armed Police Battalion (APBN) in connection with the brutal beating of two central leaders of the Chhatra League, has been suspended.

This information was given to the media by the Home Minister at around 4:30 pm on Monday (September 11).

Earlier on Sunday (September 10), the police informed the media that ADC Harun has been transferred from the Ramna Division to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Riot Control or Public Order Management Division. Later on the same evening, he was informed that he was attached to the Armed Police Battalion (APBN).

Meanwhile, on Monday (September 11), BCL Central President Saddam Hossain and General Secretary Sheikh Wali Asif met Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Khandkar Golam Farooq. They met and demanded a fair trial of the incident.

Saddam Hussain told reporters that the unexpected and sad incident has bled in the hearts of all the leaders and activists of Bangladesh. We had a meeting with the Home Minister yesterday (Sunday) to ensure legal process and take action against the culprits. Later today (Monday) I had a meeting with the DMP Commissioner. The DMP Commissioner has assured us that a departmental inquiry will ensure maximum legal punishment against the culprits.

After the meeting of the two BCL leaders with the DMP Commissioner, it was heard that ADC Haroon is being temporarily suspended. Later, when Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal was asked about the matter, he confirmed it.
