Even though passenger buses are not plying through the newly launched Dhaka Elevated Expressway, this time government has taken the initiative to ply buses. Eight buses of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTC) will run over the expressway from today.

BRTC buses will run on the elevated expressway on a trial basis from 7 am. City dwellers can travel from Farmgate to Airport for 15 km at 35 taka, and 17 km to Jasimuddin at 40 taka as a fare of 2 taka 45 paisa per kilometer. Since e-ticketing has been arranged, there is no chance of overcharging.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the country's first elevated expressway on September 2. After the inauguration of the 11.5 km road from Kawla to Farmgate in the airport area, all kinds of traffic started from the day. Private buses have been observed to ply less since the beginning of traffic on the road.

Project officials also said that private cars are moving more than passenger buses. Therefore, BRTC has taken the initiative to run buses with passengers through the flyover.
