CEC Responds To The EU's Letter

The European Union has said that it will not send observers to the upcoming national election in Bangladesh. However, the Election Commission (EC) hopes that the European Union (EU) will send an observation team to observe the 12th Parliament election, even if on a small scale. CEC Kazi Habibul Awal responded to the EU's letter to send observers to the election expressing such hope.

Election Commissioner Brigadier Ahsan Habib Khan gave this information to reporters while talking to journalists at his office in the Agargaon election building on Sunday (September 24).

He said that the European Union has already informed the EC about why the European Union is not sending observers to the 12th Parliament election. They said their budget is short. But they did not say that they would not send observers. He said that the EU would not send a full team. It has not been mentioned whether it will be sent in a small form or not.

He said, but they did not say that they would not send it on a small scale. We can expect that the more observers monitor the election process, be it observers, or journalists, the more there are, the more transparent it will be. We will always be hopeful. The more domestic and international observers, the better for us. The more the election is monitored, the more pressure will be on us. We will have the perception—everyone is watching us. It will make the election fair.

Referring to the CEC's letter to the EU, he further said that the CEC has expressed hope that the cooperation that we have always received should continue. Expressing hope, he said, 'We wholeheartedly believe that the observation team of the European Union will remain in the election, albeit on a small scale.'
