As Bangladesh's 12th national election approaches, the US is mulling the possibility of further visa curbs. However, the US government remains adamant about keeping secret the identity and amount of people subject to these restrictions.

Meanwhile, the United States has been keeping a close eye on developments in Bangladesh ever since the new visa curbs were announced.

"The first round of visa restrictions has been announced. But if necessary, more sanctions may come." Bryan Schiller, the spokesperson of the US Embassy in Dhaka, said these things.

He again reminded that this visa curbs policy is known as '3C'. This ban can be imposed against anyone who is seen obstructing the election.

He emphasized the English word 'anyone' in this case. He further elaborated that activities to obstruct democratic elections include vote fraud, voter intimidation, those who use violence to prevent the exercise of the right to freedom of assembly and peaceful assembly, measures to prevent political parties, voters and civil society, media from participating in the electoral process. and preventing them from expressing their views.

Brian Schiller said these things to a local media. He also said that we will not disclose the names and phone numbers of those who will come under visa curbs. Visa records are confidential under US law. The US State Department said in its statement who it would impose sanctions against. This includes law enforcement agencies, leaders of ruling and opposition political parties, the judiciary, and current and former government officials.
