The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), Kazi Habibul Awal, has acknowledged the significant pressure faced by the election commission due to controversies surrounding the 2014 and 2018 elections. Nevertheless, he emphasized the commission's commitment to the challenge of conducting the next parliamentary polls in a credible manner. His remarks came during the inaugural session of a training workshop for Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs) at the Electoral Training Institute.

CEC Kazi Habibul Awal pointed out that controversies and criticisms are not uncommon in Bangladesh's electoral process, with a history of such issues spanning 50 to 70 years, even dating back to the British era, albeit at a lower intensity. He noted that the current election preparation has faced an excessive level of complaints and controversies, particularly stemming from the 2014 and 2018 elections. Despite these challenges, the election commission is diligently working to ensure a credible electoral process.

In 2014, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) did not participate in the 10th parliamentary election, resulting in candidates being elected unopposed in 153 constituencies. The 11th parliamentary election in 2018, in which the BNP participated, was marred by allegations of ballot stuffing on the previous night.

CEC Kazi Habibul Awal instructed the UNOs at the workshop to fulfill their duties diligently during the election, emphasizing that the commission would closely monitor their activities to ensure the election's credibility. He also addressed the perception in the market regarding confidence in the government and the election commission, reaffirming the commission's commitment to conducting a free, fair, and transparent election. The CEC stated that they aim to demonstrate transparency through media coverage and observers, ultimately accepting the challenge of ensuring a credible electoral process.
