AL Factional Feud: UP Member Beaten To Death

A Union Parishad member Habibur Rahman Ripon, 43, was beaten to death allegedly by his rivals over a dispute between two factions of Awami League at Meengram under Shailkupa in Jhenaidah in the early hours of Monday (October 16).

Habibur Rahman was the law affairs secretary of Abaipur union unit of AL.

Shailkupa police station officer-in-charge Thakurdas Mandal said that the incident occurred at about 2:00am.

Quoting locals, the said that Ripon and his followers had rivalry with another faction of Awami League in the area over establishing supremacy.

Ripon was beaten and stabbed by his rivals in front of Wapda gate of Abaipur union and was left there in an unconscious state.

Later, he was rushed to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital where he died at about 3:00am, the OC said.

The body has been kept at the hospital morgue, he said.

Additional police personnel were deployed in the area, he said and added that no case was filed until 11:00am and none was arrested until then.
