Ten Supreme Court lawyers Monday (October 16) sent a legal notice to the government, asking it to remove the iron cages from the courtrooms throughout the country.

The iron cages inside the courtrooms are the place where the accused stand during case proceedings.

Advocate Mohammad Shishir Manir, on behalf of the 10 lawyers, served the notice on the law secretary, home secretary and inspector general of police.

The notice said the use of iron cages at the courtrooms is inhuman and contradictory to the law and constitution.

If the notice recipients do not take measures to remove the cages from courtrooms, a writ petition will be moved before the High Court, seeking necessary directives on them to execute it, Shishir Manir told the reporters.
