Smart NID Distribution Stops On November 1

The Election Commission (EC) will stop the distribution of smart National Identification cards (NID) from November 1 ahead of the 12th National Assembly elections. After the elections, it will be started again.

EC sources said that this decision was taken in a recent meeting. In the meantime, the EC Secretary Jahangir Alam has ordered the NID department to implement the decision.

According to the instructions, the ongoing Smart NID distribution program at the field level should be completed by October 30. The Smart NID distribution program will be suspended from November 1 until the end of the National Assembly elections. Instructions have been given to report the matter at the field level.

In this regard, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal said that the schedule of parliamentary elections will be announced in November. Polling will be held between the last week of December and the first week of January. After that, the distribution of Smart NID will resume._Agencies
