The High Court has commuted the death sentence of seven militants to imprisonment until death in the Holey Artisan attack case. Today, Monday (October 30), the High Court bench consisting of Justice Sahidul Karim and Justice Mo Mostafizur Rahman gave this verdict.

The seven militants who were sentenced to imprisonment until death are Rakibul Hasan alias Reagan, Md Jahangir Hossain alias Rajib Gandhi, Aslam Hossain alias Rash, Hadisur Rahman, Abdus Sabur Khan alias Sohail Mahfuz, Mamunur Rashid alias Ripon and Shariful Islam Khaled.

The High Court had fixed today for the verdict after the hearing on October 11 on the death reference (sanction of death penalty) and the appeal filed by the accused in the case. Accordingly, the judgment was given today.

Seven years ago on the night of July 1, 2016, militants attacked the Holey Artisan Bakery in Gulshan. They hold foreign and domestic guests hostage at gunpoint. That night, two police officers were killed in a bomb attack by militants while conducting an operation to free the hostages. The entire country was stunned by this terrible terrorist attack.

In this case, the judicial court gave a verdict on November 27, 2019. Dhaka Special Anti-Terrorism Tribunal sentenced seven members of Neo-JMB to death.
