A Dua mahfil was held on the occasion of the death anniversary of language activist Zahed Hossain Musa Mia.

The event was organized at Mohakhali's SKS Tower in the Headquarters of Radiant Pharmaceuticals Limited on Wednesday (November 15) afternoon.

Chairman of Radiant Pharmaceuticals Limited and Zahed Hossain Musa Mia's eldest son Nasser Shahriar Zahedee spoke at the Dua mahfil.

Zahed Hossain Musa Mia's youngest son M A Latif Zahedee, grandson Musawat Zahedee and Tasnia Zahedee also commemorated on that event.

At the end of the event, special prayers were offered for the departed soul of Zahed Hossain Musa Mia.

Md. Zahed Hossain Musa is a name remembered with respect and love by the people of Jhenaidah and the south-western region of the country. He was known to all as Musa Mia. This eloquent man was a linguist, politician, educationist and social worker. He was born on February 2, 1932 in Paikpara village of Jhenaidah sub-division of Jessore district. Growing up in a political climate, he became involved in progressive politics during his student days.

Many national politicians used to visit his ancestral home in Jhenaidah from the beginning of Bangladesh's independence movement during the Pakistan era. At this time he became close with Maulana Bhasani. Maulana Bhasani used to stay in their house when he came to Jhenaidah. Also at that time leaders like Kazi Zafar Ahmad, Rashed Khan Menon, Haji Danesh used to come to that house.

In political life, during the period of language movement from 1948 to 1952, he played a role as an active organizer of the movement for the status of mother tongue in Jhenaidah subdivision and Jessore district. From 1952-57 served as General Secretary of Jhenaidah Sub-division (now District) Awami League. Later he joined the National Awami Party. Then, on the instructions of Maulana Bhasani, in 1973, when he was the president of Jhenaidah sub-district NAP, he became a candidate in the national parliament election.

Zahed Hossain Musa also had free movement in the cultural arena. Musa Mia, an art lover himself, sang, wrote songs, loved and wrote poetry. His published book of poetry - 'Onek Derite'.

He involved himself in social service activities after NAP's political position weakened at the national level. In 2009, a social service organization named Zahedee Foundation started its journey under the leadership of Zahed Hossain Musa. Through which various institutions are being run in the food program, education and health sector for women children and the needy.

On November 17, 2020, this veteran language activist breathed his last in a hospital in the capital. He was 89 years old at the time of his death. Before his death, Zahed Hossain Musa was the respected advisor of Radiant Group of Companies and Weekly Deshkal.

As a mark of respect for his various social contributions and active role in the language movement, a condolence motion was raised in his name in the parliament on 18 January 2021 and a minute's silence was observed. An important road in Jhenaidah Municipality was named 'Language Activist Musa Mia Road' as a tribute to his active life and contribution.
