A Dhaka-bound Mohanganj Express train has derailed after saboteurs allegedly severed a section of the Joydebpur-Mymensingh railway line in Gazipur's Bhawal.

Several people were injured in the incident, which occurred around 4:00am on Wednesday (December 13), according to Hanif Ali, chief of the Joydebpur Railway Station.

Services on the Dhaka-Mymensingh route have been suspended in the wake of the incident.

The train derailed soon after leaving Rajendrapur between 4-4:30 am, said Hanif.

Seven compartments, including the engine, went off the tracks.

"Criminals reportedly cut parts of the railway line, leading to the accident. Train operations on the Dhaka-Mymensingh route have been halted," Hanif said.

The exact number of people injured in the incident has yet to be determined.

A rescue team reached the spot around 8:00am, according to Hanif. He described the incident as an act of 'sabotage'.
