The United States has made no comment on Russian foreign ministry spokesperson’s remarks involving the US over Bangladesh’s next JS Polls, scheduled to be held on January 7.

Addressing a regular press briefing at the US Department of State in Washington DC on Tuesday (December 19), the Department spokesperson Matthew Miller, however, said the US supported a free and fair election in Bangladesh.

The near verbatim of the press briefing was uploaded on the State Department website.

A journalist, in the briefing, mentioned that the Russian foreign ministry spokesperson had said if the result of the people’s vote were not satisfactory for the United States, attempt could be made to destabilize Bangladesh like Arab Spring.

The journalist sought comments from Miller over the issue.

‘We support a free and fair election in Bangladesh, and I don’t have any further comment from that,’ responded the US State Department spokesperson.

‘On December 19, today, four people, including a woman and three-years-old child were killed after arsonists set on fire three coaches on the Dhaka-bound express train,’ the journalist mentioned and wanted to know whether the Biden administration was concerned about the victims falling prey to such arson attacks in Bangladesh.
