11800 People Voted in Postal Ballot

Voting for the 12th National Parliament Elections is going to be held on  tomorrow (Sunday, January 7). Voting will start from 8 am till 4 pm. However, the Election Commission (EC) has already received 11,800 postal ballot votes from returning officers across the country.

EC confirmed regarding the information on Saturday (January 6).

Earlier on Wednesday President Mohammed Shahabuddin and his wife Dr Rebeka Sultana casted their vote through postal ballot.

Generally, if a person is in a jail or in any other legal custody in Bangladesh, if a person is engaged in any election-related duty at a polling station other than the one at which he is entitled to vote or Bangladeshi voters but living in abroad can cast their vote by postal ballot. Besides, the person who is physically unable to go to the polling station can also vote by postal ballot.

Earlier Postal ballot voting system launched in 2008 since Ninth National Parliament Elections.

Needs to mention that if anybody wants to vote through postal ballot, he/she has to apply within 15 days after the announcement of the schedule. Later on, the returning officer will send a postal ballot paper and an envelope to the voter by post. Then if the applicant votes and sends the ballot paper it will be added to the original result on the day of the election.
