The Appellate Division has ordered the demolition of the risky 'Gulshan Shopping Centre' located in Gulshan-1 of the capital.

On Monday (January 22), a 5-member appellate bench led by the Chief Justice upheld the High Court verdict and gave this order.

The lessees of this shopping center have been asked to demolish it and remove it at their own risk.

Lawyer Mostak Ahmed Chowdhury heard on behalf of the writ in the court. Sajeed Sami was on behalf of City Corporation. Majedul Islam Miyaji was in favor of Rajuk. Deputy Attorney General Tushar Kanti Roy was present for the state.

This lawyer said that the Gulshan shopping center has been closed for a long time due to its danger. Two companies named Banichitra Sansthan Limited and Filman Sansthan Limited filed a writ in the High Court seeking instructions to demolish this shopping center. The court issued a ruling on the hearing of the writ.

After hearing this rule, the High Court has asked the tenants of Gulshan Shopping Centre to demolish and remove it from their responsibility. More details will be known when the full order is received.

Last July, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) sealed the Gulshan shopping centre located in Gulshan-1 of the capital because it was dangerous.

After that, the owner wrote to the City Corporation seeking permission to break the seal. Not getting a response, the two organizations filed a writ in the High Court.
