EC Announces Dates Of Mymensingh, Cumilla City Polls

Election Commission (EC) has announced the date for the Mymensingh City Corporation election and the Cumilla City by-election on March 9.

Election Commissioner Anisur Rahman revealed this information at the election building on Monday (Jan 22).

He said that voting will be conducted through the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) in both city corporations. Voting will start at 8am and continue until 4pm without a break.

Ikramul Haque Titu was elected mayor unopposed in the first polling of Mymensingh City Corporation on May 5, 2019. The city had a total of 127 centres in the first poll.

Mymensingh City has 33 general wards and 11 reserved wards.

Meanwhile, the post of mayor was declared vacant after the death of Arfanul Haque Rifat, General Secretary of the Awami League, on Dec 13. According to the rules of the Election Commission, the election has to be held within 90 days after the post of Mayor of the City Corporation becomes vacant.
