The Election Commission (EC) wants to finish the Upazila Parishad elections between the last week of April and the last week of May considering the issue of the SSC examination and Ramadan. The constitutional body has not yet taken a final decision on the exact method of voting. However, the commission has plans to use an electronic voting machine (EVM) system in this local government election.

This was said by Election Commissioner Md. Alamgir while talking to the media at his office in Agargaon election building on Tuesday (January 23) at noon.

Alamgir said, there is an SSC exam in February and Ramadan and Eid in March. The Election Commission has initially discussed and decided that the election will start from the last week of April and end in May.

In response to the question of how many constituencies will be elected, he said that now elections will not be possible in all upazila parishads. Elections will be held in about four hundred councils.

In response to the question of how many stages the election can be held, he said that the election can be held in three stages, four stages or it can be changed.

In response to the question of how the vote will be taken, he said that the election can be done by ballot or by EVM. Nothing final can be said about this right now. We have not yet got the calculation of whether the EVM machine is usable or not. Once we get that calculation, we will be able to make a final decision.
