'If Policy-Makers Want, Initiatives Will Be Taken To Clarify 648 MPs' Issue'

As there are now 648 Members of Parliament (MP) in the country, Law Minister Anisul Haq said that if the policy-makers want, initiatives will be taken to clarify the matter in the Constitution.

The law minister also said that everything that has happened now has been constitutional.

The minister said this in response to questions from journalists after a meeting with Issa bin Youssef Al-Duhailan, Saudi Arabia's ambassador to Bangladesh, at the Secretariat on Thursday (January 25).

It is said that there are 648 MPs in the parliament now. It is being discussed and criticized. The previous cabinet was dissolved when the ministers were sworn in. But even if the parliament members take the oath, the previous parliament is not canceled. Do you think the law is ambiguous in that case or not? When asked whether an initiative will be taken to clarify it or not, the law minister said that the matter is what is in the constitution now, the country is running as it is and it has not been inserted in the constitution today. It was added in the Fourteenth Amendment. The matter that is being discussed now is probably not very important. Still, I would say, that if the policy-makers feel there is a need for further clarification, that will be seen.

Regarding whether the law minister thinks it is necessary to clarify or not, he said, I said, if the policy-makers think there is a need to clarify, then it will be seen.

The law minister said, "I don't know yet which place needs to be clarified. Policy-makers will decide where policy-makers feel the need. Then it will be. I think everything that has happened now is constitutional."
