The High Court has directed the commerce secretary to form a high-powered committee to probe the increased prices of agricultural commodities such as potatoes, onions, and eggs.
Additionally, the court has mandated the submission of a detailed report on this matter.
Furthermore, the court has issued a rule, requiring government officials to clarify why their inability to prevent the escalation of prices for these products should not be deemed unlawful. In the rule, the High Court has asked these officials to provide reasons as to why they should not be mandated to set up market infrastructure near agricultural areas to facilitate proper buying and selling.
This directive and rule were issued by the High Court bench, comprising Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice Md Atabullah, in response to a writ petition filed by Supreme Court lawyer Manoj Kumar Bhowmik. Deputy Attorney General Tushar Kanti Roy represented the state during the hearing of the petition.
