The High Court (HC) has granted a two-month suspension of the parliamentary membership of Md Abdul Hyee, an Awami League lawmaker from Jhenaidah-1, following a hearing on a petition alleging irregularities in the election process.

The HC bench, headed by Justice Asaduzzaman, issued this order on Thursday.

The petition, filed by Nazrul Islam Dulal, an independent candidate from the constituency, raised concerns about electoral irregularities and vote rigging.

In addition, the petition requested a halt to the publication of the gazette about Abdul Hyee's parliament membership, as issued by the Election Commission.

It's noteworthy that Abdul Hye secured victory in the January 7 polls with 94,379 votes, surpassing his closest competitor, Nazrul Islam Dulal, who garnered 80,547 votes.
