The ongoing conflict between insurgent groups and the Myanmar military in the border region is drawing attention not only within Myanmar but also causing concern in Bangladesh. Bangladesh's Foreign Minister, Dr. Hassan Mahmud, stated that Bangladesh is closely monitoring the current situation along the border.

Dr. Mahmud revealed that discussions are underway to repatriate members of Myanmar's Border Guard Force who sought refuge in Bangladesh. He emphasized the need for diplomatic solutions and indicated that talks are ongoing to facilitate the return of these individuals. In a briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday (February 5), he highlighted that dialogue is also taking place regarding the treatment of those injured, who are currently receiving medical care in Cox's Bazar.

The Foreign Minister assured that Bangladesh has registered 95 members of Myanmar's Border Guard Force who have entered the country, and they are being kept in secure conditions. As a result, there is no room for a third-party intervention.

Furthermore, Dr. Mahmud mentioned that discussions with the European Union in Brussels are intensifying, indicating a growing focus on strengthening relations within the Indo-Pacific region. Regarding the relationship with the US, he mentioned that there are no further questions on the matter after the recent letter from U.S. President Joe Biden, and both countries are committed to working together on economic and climate issues.

The Foreign Minister underscored the importance of joint efforts between the United States and Bangladesh on economic and climate-related challenges, emphasizing a collaborative approach following President Biden's letter. The diplomatic relations between the two nations remain strong, fostering cooperation on various fronts.
