Md. Nasser Shahrear Zahedee Mohul, a Member of Parliament (MP) and the Chairman of Radiant Pharmaceuticals, has demanded the inclusion of Jhenaidah Sadar Upazila in the railway network. He made this demand while also proposing the establishment of a specialized hospital for heart and kidney diseases in the district and suggesting the establishment of an agricultural university for local employment.

In his statement at the National Parliament yesterday evening (February 13), he reiterated these claims. He began his speech by remembering the language movement and the liberation war, acknowledging the organizers, freedom fighters, and national leaders.

Referring to the presence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in parliament, he stated that the Prime Minister has undertaken initiatives to bring all the districts of the country under the umbrella of railway connectivity. However, he expressed regret that Jhenaidah Sadar Upazila remains outside the scope of railway connectivity. He highlighted that during British rule, Jhenaidah city was within the ambit of railway connectivity, but subsequently, that railway line was removed.

He pointed out that with the establishment of a railway line connecting Madhukhali in Faridpur to Magura alongside the Padma Bridge, if a 25-kilometer railway line is constructed from Magura, Jhenaidah Sadar Upazila will come under the national railway network. Furthermore, with just a 15-kilometer railway line from there, connectivity will be established with Mobarakganj Station in the district. This will enhance the mobility of people in the area and facilitate easier nationwide marketing of locally produced agricultural goods, thereby enabling the people of the district to contribute more significantly to the national GDP.

Addressing the need for a specialized hospital in the district, he mentioned that Jhenaidah Sadar currently has a 250-bed hospital, and Harinakundu Upazila has a 50-bed hospital. However, there is a shortage of necessary medical personnel and other support staff in these hospitals. Additionally, there is a lack of various medical equipment. In such circumstances, ensuring quality treatment for cardiovascular, neurological, and complex kidney diseases is not guaranteed. Consequently, patients are compelled to seek treatment at hospitals in Dhaka or various hospitals in India, which is not financially feasible for everyone. Moreover, delaying treatment for these diseases not only increases the risk to patients but also diminishes the chances of gaining good health. Therefore, he proposed the establishment of a specialized hospital in the district for the treatment of these diseases.
