Renovation Of Postgola Bridge: 21 District Vehicles Will Ply On Alternate Routes

From today (February 22), the maintenance work of the Postogola Bridge (Buriganga-1) will begin. It will continue until March 8. In this regard, the traffic police have urged the use of alternative routes for the construction work of the Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridge in Postogola until March 8th due to the fear of additional congestion. Directions for alternative routes have also been given.

According to a public notice from the Road and Highway Department of the Dhaka Zone, there may be increased traffic congestion in the transportation of vehicles in 21 districts including Dhaka during this time. Light vehicles will use alternative routes on February 24, 26, and March 1, 4, and 8. Heavy vehicles will use alternative routes from February 22 to March 8. 

The alternative routes for light vehicles are as follows:

  • Vehicles coming from Padma Bridge can use the Sirajganj-Munshiganj-Muktarpur Bridge-3rd Sheetalakshya Bridge-Madanpur road. 
  • Vehicles from Sylhet and Chattogram to Padma Bridge can use the Munshiganj-Sirajganj road via the Muktarpur Bridge to Madanpur.

The alternative routes for heavy vehicles (trucks, pick-up vans, covered vans, containers) are as follows:

  • Vehicles on the Dhaka-bound Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Expressway can enter the highway via Tejgaon Intersection to Dholai Badda Bus Stand and Babu Bazaar Bridge.
  • Vehicles from the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Expressway can enter the highway from the Tejgaon Intersection to Dholai Badda.
  • Vehicles from Gabtali can travel via Patuaria Daulatdia Ferry Ghat.
  • Vehicles from the Eastern and South Eastern regions of the country can travel via Chandpur-Sariyatpur Ferry Ghat.

In context, Postogola Bridge is also known as Buriganga Bridge-1. It is known that the maintenance and retrofitting of the two guards of the bridge will be done during the scheduled time. The bridge is located at the third kilometer of the National Highway (N-8) or the Dhaka-Mawa-Bhanga Expressway.
