Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has announced that the Coast Guard will be formed as a tri-service force. She also urged the Coast Guard to take care of every aspect of the country and its economy.

She made the remarks at the 29th anniversary celebration of the Coast Guard on Sunday (March 10).

The Prime Minister said, "The father of the nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, first initiated the maritime boundary law. After the massacre of '75, no government took any initiative. Bangladesh has become the owner of its own territory in the sea. This has been made possible by the Awami League government maintaining friendly relations with Myanmar and India."

She said, "Two new ships and helicopters are being added to the Coast Guard. An advanced maritime surveillance system will be introduced. Bangladesh Coast Guard is on its way to becoming a tri-service force."

Earlier in the morning at 10 o'clock, the Prime Minister inaugurated five newly constructed stations and an outpost at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the Coast Guard headquarters in addition to the V-Satellite communication system. The Prime Minister arrived at the headquarters of the force to attend the celebration of the 29th founding anniversary and award ceremony. Later, she handed over medals to the members of the Coast Guard, sailors, and civilians for their heroic and courageous work.
